My tweets here are about travel, motorcycling, tent camping, bicycling (mostly as a commuter), and things I find amusing. I tweet maybe up to half a dozen times a day, on a really good day - usually much less.

I'm not fond of the gorge on the Oregon side, but I LOVE it on the Washington state side!

This is a 200 mile ride from Portland to the Stonehenge replica in Maryhill, Washington and back. There are plenty of places to eat lunch or just stop and enjoy the scenery along the way. It's all paved.

And once you do this route, you can change it up and do just half this route and then combine it with another trip - like up to Mt. Adams, or down around Mt. Hood.

I highly recommend the Washington state side of the route for new motorcycle riders.

This is the route, clockwise from Portland:

TO START:

However you want to, get to WA-14 in Washington state, from Vancouver, heading East. You stay on that road for more than 90 miles, all the way to Maryhill. This doesn’t really get scenic until after Camas and Washougal, but I promise, it gets beautiful!

Head back West on WA-14 for about 60 miles and then cross the Columbia River at the Bridge of the Gods (toll).

Take the ramp onto I-84/U.S. 30 W and continue on the freeway for about 8 miles. Then take exit 35 toward Historic Hwy/Ainsworth State Park. Merge onto E Historic Columbia River Hwy.

This historic highway takes you by Horsetail Falls, Multnomah Falls, Wahkeena Falls and, of course, Vista House. You will want to stop at some or all of those places, but we warned: on a weekend, especially if it's really pretty, the traffic around the falls and Vista House will be thick, with people who don't know how to drive looking for parking - and not seeing you at all.

After you enjoy Vista House, continue on the Crown Point Hwy, through Corbett, and continuing on the Historic Columbia River Hwy to Troutdale.

And, of course, you can do the route in the opposite direction!
