Tech Tools for Working Together in Virtual Volunteering

There is an endless number of online collaboration tools, allowing remote staff, paid or not, to interact via text, voice, and/or audio/video, and new tools emerge - and disappear - regularly.

Advice for HOW to use tech tools in the various functions of volunteer management, no matter what tech tool you choose, can be found in  The Last Virtual Volunteering Guidebook.

These are just some of the many options available. Note that this is by no means a comprehensive list. Some are free, some have a limited free option, some can be used only if you subscribe:

Which should you choose? That depends on your budget and needs, as well as your ability to support users of whatever platform(s) you choose and to cultivate their participation. You also need to consider usability and accessibility, how much training you can provide, etc.

Jayne notes: I was a heavy user of YahooGroups - until they drastically scaled back the features and made it email-only. If you are looking for a free option, I recommend using a combination of GoogleDrive and groups.io - but if you have a budget, I highly recommend a combination of Basecamp and Zoom.

Want to know what you need to keep in mind when working together with online volunteers or other remote staff, no matter what platform you choose? The Last Virtual Volunteering Guidebook can help! The guidebook provides details on this and all other aspects of supporting and involving volunteers using Internet tools.
