Hope you had a great Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
If you are my friend on Facebook, you should have already seen this proposal of mine, but if not… I want to start the financial and planning and searching steps needed, right now, so that, when I’m 75 or 80, I have cooperative housing to move into with my friends. I’m completely serious about wanting to do this with friends.
Stories like this, that 1 in 5 older adults don’t have someone they can depend on in time of need and this one, about how more and more baby boomers are becoming homeless, as well as watching family members age, has really got me worried.
It means each person that wants to be involved has to make a commitment to putting aside money to invest in such, and at some point, they have to pay in to make it happen. How much would that investment be? I don’t know.
And maybe it could work out that the core group makes the big investment and takes ownership, but those that can’t, those that could only pay the monthly rent, could also be a part of it somehow. Again, I just don’t know.
And how in the world do I find the perfect site? Again, I just don’t know. Per my earlier blog, maybe it’s New Harmony, Indiana…
But I really don’t want to end up in a room with some person I don’t know and don’t like, in a facility I don’t like, with people I don’t know and don’t like, with no one around who doesn’t really care about me. And I don’t think any of my other childless friends want to either.
