I want to offer my friends and other readers a way to subscribe to this blawg via email, so that they get a notice when I add something. What I post here is similar to what I’ve posted to my personal Facebook account, but in long form. But I cannot figure out how to add a subscribe by email widget. I don’t want to post updates to social media, where most of my followers are related to my professional work, and I’d like to scale back my Facebook use, per the profoundly unethical and despicable practices of the owner.
For now, if you want to know when I post a new blog, I have a Signal group you can join – you will receive a message ONLY when I add a new blog, and there will be no discussions on the group- it’s not a conversation group, and only I can post. So no worries about it overwhelming you with messages or your getting messages from other people because you join the group.
Signal is a 501c3 nonprofit. It works almost exactly the same as WhatsApp (which is owned by Facebook). Signal is my preferred way to text. You put it on your phone and you sign up with your phone number. But you can also have it on your laptop or computer, meaning you can read the same messages on your phone or your laptop.
Here’s how to install Signal. I wish I could say it’s easy, but it’s not – it’s hard to know if you have done it right. And you have to know my phone number to add me as a contact (if I’m not already). If you don’t have my phone number, email me to ask for it – and my email address is my first name (remember, with a y), and then @coyotebroad.com.
And then I will add you to my blawg group. Again, you will NOT be able to message other people on the group, nor will they be able to send messages to the group. Only me, and I’ll only send an update when I publish a new blog (one – three times a month). You aren’t joining a new social network – just a notification group. BUT if you are using WhatsApp, you will find Signal a terrific and ethical alternative to texting with friends.
Sorry for the inconvenience – I know this means I’m going to be losing contact with a lot of you, and I hate that. But Facebook has gone too far.
If you want to follow me on other social media, where I post mostly work-related stuff, look for coyotebroad on whatever platform you are using.
