{"id":1231,"date":"2025-01-21T19:40:49","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T03:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coyotebroad.com\/blawg\/?p=1231"},"modified":"2025-01-21T19:40:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T03:40:49","slug":"finding-strength-knowing-you-arent-alone-being-a-part-of-a-caring-community-no-god-required","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coyotebroad.com\/blawg\/2025\/01\/21\/finding-strength-knowing-you-arent-alone-being-a-part-of-a-caring-community-no-god-required\/","title":{"rendered":"finding strength, knowing you aren&#8217;t alone &amp; being a part of a caring community &#8211; no God required."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Someone posted this to Mastodon and I thought it was so wonderful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>It is hard not to feel overwhelmed by all the bad news from around the world right now, a sense of hopelessness at all the cruelty and selfishness.<br>This weekend, I will be joining a small group of like-minded friends doing voluntary conservation work in our local woodland &#8211; we aren&#8217;t looking to fix the world, just make our little bit of it better.<br>So, my friends, do what you can to make the world a better place &#8211; kindness costs nothing, except perhaps a little time and effort.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In your community, no matter where you are, there are nonprofits focused on <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>helping refugees and immigrants, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on some aspect of equity, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on human rights, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on women&#8217;s access to abortion services, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on economic empowerment, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on worker&#8217;s rights, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on access to jobs and housing, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on racial justice, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on celebrating and promoting human performance and culture, via theater, dance, music, painting, sculpture, etc. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on helping women experiencing domestic violence, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on fighting against censorship,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on preserving or restore a natural habitat,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>and on and on and on. And they need you as a volunteer. It won&#8217;t fix most of what&#8217;s wrong right now. It won&#8217;t FIX even a little of it. But you need to find strength in knowing you aren&#8217;t alone and to feel a part of a caring community. And this is a great way to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to your favorite search engine and search for these nonprofits in your own community. Sign up and volunteer for just one half a day, if they have such an opportunity. Or several days. Don&#8217;t expect the experience to be perfect. Don&#8217;t expect it to restore your soul completely. Just get busy. Do a little good. Try again with another organization if you need to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engage with your community, doing good, and engaging in activities that directly contradict the efforts of the current Presidential administration, even if they never say that&#8217;s what they do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coyotebroad.com\/stuff\/volunteering.shtml\">incredibly detailed web page on how to volunteer here<\/a>. It&#8217;s over-the-top detailed.
