finding internships

At this time, internships with the Virtual Volunteering Project are unpaid. If you are looking for a paid internship, we recommend these internship resources (this is by NO MEANS a comprehensive list -- this is just a few sites that our online volunteers have recommended):

    Office of Career Services
    http://www.ocs.fas.harvard.edu/html/ii.html
Lots of internship tips, including an introduction to internships, the reasons why people should consider internships, how to find and fund internships, and the benefits of internships.

VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America)
    http://www.friendsofvista.org/
Now part of the AmeriCorps national service program. VISTAs receive a stipend, and many VISTA opportunities are technology-focused (the VV Project works frequently with various VISTA-related programs).

    Internship Programs.com
    http://intershipprograms.com/
Everything you need to know about internships, including employers' own tips and advertisements. Research different types of internships and apply on-line. You can chat with others who are looking for internships as well.

    Intership and Fieldwork Listings Nationwide
from the Office of Career Planning and Placement

    http://www.virginia.edu/~career/intern.html
Enter resumes on-line, which are viewed by organizations in various industries. There are internship searches within states and organizations, internship lists, and the Mighty Internship Review.

The National Assembly Internships in Youth Development
    http://www.nassembly.org/html/search.html
Searches for exact type of internships available in certain areas. Specializes in non-profit human services. Gets right to the point of finding the right internship for your area and type of work.

    Internship Resources on the Web
    http://www.cc.colorado.edu/CareerCenter/SummerJobsAndInternships/Intern.html
Another place to search for internships throughout the U.S. This site is easy to get around if you know the type of internship you want to find. Tthe number of opportunities vary within each field of work -- some are plentiful, some are not.

    Summer Jobs
    http://www.summerjobs.com
A very popular database of summer jobs (and beyond). If you can't find a job on their site, there are many great links from here that will help you continue your search. It also shows the effects of summer job experiences through success stories. Includes a section to answer questions about summer jobs..

    Internship Database Search
    http://www.tripod.com/explore/jobs_career/intern_visa
Includes a self assessment quiz, how to surf for internships, career aptitude, career gallery (job descriptions by the Dept. of Labor), resume builder and a search center.

    Mission Impossible: Finding an Internship
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/scoop/interns/intern.htm
From the Washington Post. Excellent information on the whys and hows of internship.
