A woman holds a sign that says Immigrants Make America Great

The truth about immigrants in the USA

One of the many things I learned while living abroad for so many years, that came as a complete shock: most everyone in the world does NOT want to live in the USA, let alone be a citizen here. We’re told that EVERYONE wants to come here. It’s just not true.

In fact, not every person who lives in the USA and ain’t from here wants to be a citizen. And that’s OKAY. That doesn’t hurt me. That doesn’t hurt you.

Did you know ALL immigrants, legal or not, pay taxes? And they pay the same price you do for whatever they buy? And if they are allowed driver’s licenses, they have to pass the same exams that you do? And that they do not commit crimes at an equal nor greater rate than citizens? I guarantee you they do NOT take any job YOU want. Immigrants put FAR more into the economy economically than they take.

Why don’t they “just become citizens”? For many, there is NO PATH to USA citizenship. For others, they would lose the citizenship of their original country, and they don’t want to lose that.

Also, studies show that mother tongues are often completely lost after the third generation of immigration in the USA – meaning that most immigrants DO learn English and their children do not learn the language of their ancestors.

These are facts, not opinions. And with these facts, you have to take a hard look at the anti-immigration policies being promoted and think very carefully about the WHY. And there’s only one conclusion you can come to: racism.

Does change cause discomfort? Yes. Do I like every immigrant I meet? No. I also don’t like every citizen I meet. Have immigrants annoyed me? Yes. And so have far more 7th generation citizens of Ye Olde USA. Are there cultural practices of some immigrants that I do not like and even find abhorrent? Yes – and there are cultural practices of 7th generation Americans that I do not like and even find abhorrent. Do I think people who are here without documentation who commit violent crimes should be deported to their home countries? Yes, I do. I also think Presidents who lead insurrections should be imprisoned.
