  • REQUESTS FOR ONLINE PARTICIPATION :

I am available to design, lead or participate in live/synchronous online events as my schedule allows. I would prefer online events to not occur earlier than 6 a.m. USA Pacific Coast time/9 a.m. USA East Coast Time and not later than 8 p.m. USA Pacific Coast time/11 p.m. USA East Coast Time, but I will consider off hours for clients in Asia and Australia in particular. This online tool to help you know what meeting times look like for participants in different time zones can help you know what those times mean in your time zone.

I can also participate in asynchronous (not live) online events, such as recording classes that attendees view on demand and then answering their questions over the course of hours, days or weeks, or moderating or facilitating an online community for a set period. Examples of these kind of presentations can be found here and below. Contact me for more information and my very reasonable speaking fees.

    FREE, ON-DEMAND ONLINE WORKSHOPS :

I have a series of free, on-demand videos about virtual volunteering, that, altogether, in less than an hour, provide a robust video introduction to virtual volunteering, and will help any program new to virtual volunteering to rapidly introduce or expand roles and activities for online volunteers. You are free to show these videos at any workshop or conference you may have. The videos

And a bonus video: virtual volunteering advice for corporations and businesses that want to allow their employees to be online volunteers. Has advice specifically for online volunteering to engage residents of elderly homes.

These videos by me are more than 11 - 60 minutes long:

    REQUESTS FOR ONSITE PARTICIPATION :

Acceptance of a request for an onsite presentation depends on my availability, reimbursement for all travel and housing costs, and payment for services. Please contact me with your ideas for a training (see below) for information about my rates.

Please note: because of the health risks associated with COVID-19, I am not doing any in-person consulting or in-person, onsite workshop presentations through September 2020. After that date, if I start considering onsite, in-person offers, they will have to be within driving distance of my home in Portland, Oregon. Because of the health risks associated with COVID-19, I will not be flying on airplanes for the rest of 2020.

    SPECIAL OFFERS :

If your group (association, university class, etc.) is in the USA or Canada and the group you may want to receive one of my trainings is an audience that will be at least one third African American, Latino and/or American Indian/Native American, I will give you a special, reduced rate for an online or onsite training. This is per my commitment to helping African American, Latino and American Indian/Native American managers in nonprofits, civic organizations, government programs and schools in particular to build their capacities regarding communications and/or volunteer engagement, and to cultivate far more trainers and consultants from these communities.

When COVID-19 risks are less: if your group is in a country that is classified as a Least Developed Country or a country less than .700 on UNDP's Human Development Index, I will waive all fees for two 90 minute workshops and charge only for transportation (including airfare and on-the-ground transportation in the USA to and from airports) and the UN's DSA rate for every day of travel or work (minimum four days) - I will waive all my consulting fees.

Please contact me for more information about my special rates for your audience.

I will consider doing one pro bono webinar (online workshop from my home in Oregon) for your organization of up to 45 minutes for a subject on which I already have a presentation prepared if:
I will also consider doing a workshop up to 90 minutes for an honorarium that is less than my day rate under some circumstances, but the amount must, at least, absolutely cover absolutely cover all of my travel, accommodation and food expenses. Other circumstances will also apply (such as how many paid employees you have, what you are charging people to attend the workshop, etc.).

Please remember that consulting is my living and I cannot pay my mortgage, utility bills, house repairs, health insurance costs, health costs not covered by insurance, food, and other essentials to live with "exposure" and good intentions.

    SIGNED AGREEMENT :

There must be a SIGNED agreement for a speaking or training gig to be finalized - even one at a reduced rate. The agreement should have your organization's name, my name, the date of the event, a summary of what you want me to do (30 minute keynote speech, 90 minute presentation on whatever subject, etc.) details about payment, details about who is responsible for making travel arrangements and who is paying for such, cancellation policy, etc. I am very generous about cancellation of an event **IF** I am not out of any money - in other words, if we have a signed agreement and you need to cancel BEFORE I have paid for a flight, a rental car, etc., that is very likely going to be okay with me. But without a signed agreement that clearly lays out terms, I don't know how "real" your invitation to present is.

    TOPICS :

I am available to conduct classes, workshops and training sessions on various topics:

I have a long list of topics on which I can consult, including key note speech suggestions for nonprofit conferences, volunteer management conferences, corporation philanthropy / foundation relations conferences, etc.

NOTE: If you are interested in virtual volunteering beyond the free videos I provide (see above), I encourage you to purchase The Last Virtual Volunteering Guidebook: Fully Integrating Online Service into Volunteer Involvement, written by me and Susan Ellis. Purchasing the book will provide you with far more detailed information than I could in even an all-day workshop and, in addition, is a far more affordable option than your paying for my travel, accommodation, and consulting time.

There are older videos that are also free and available online via my YouTube channel and are good introductions to virtual volunteering:

  • using the Internet and smartphone apps to work with volunteers - A 2013 workshop I did onsite as part of the Corporation for National and Community Service regional conference.

  • the best assignments for online volunteers - A 2014 workshop I lead for TechSoup, viewable at any time via YouTube)

  • Regarding volunteer engagement, I prefer to do workshops on more advanced topics, such as

I am available and interested in being a part of panel discussions with others regarding virtual volunteering.

I am also happy to make references to other consultants/trainers/experts who may be closer to your geographic location or have an expertise different from my own relating to volunteer involvement/community engagement, communications and nonprofit/NGO management. For instance, this list provides an overview of other people and organizations are talking about virtual volunteering, especially outside the USA. Please contact me regarding the specifics of your project for a referral to any of the people listed on that page, or just tell them you found them per the Virtual Volunteering Wiki and Jayne Cravens.

I enjoy teaching, and try to give my workshops, online or onsite, a lively, audience-oriented, non-"techie" feel. My goal in any training is to give participants tools that they can use immediately and that give them a base on which to further build and improve long after the workshop is over.
